Trend Report: Spring 2013 Menswear Accessories

Spring 2013 Me's Accessories: : Denim

Spring 2013 Men’s Accessories: : Denim

I have a golden rule when it comes to men’s accessories: Always start off as a minimalist. You can then add more pieces on as you see fit. I love this rule mainly because it serves as a sort of base for putting together a look. Remember, there is a fine line between dressing up a look with tons of accessories and looking gaudy. It’s lucky then that the Spring Accessories for Men 2013 are incredibly well crafted to match up with not only this year’s trends, but classic trends as well. However, I would first like to examine a trend that works well for both ensemble and accessories.

Spring 2013 Men's Accessories: Salvatore Ferragamo: Bright Colors

The trend I’m referring to is the denim trend. This is without a doubt my favorite trend for Spring. This trend has hit retail stores across the country and can easy add a rugged sort of look to any man’s wardrobe. It can also clean up a wardrobe as well. It’s because of this dual nature that I have fallen in love with denim this season.

In stark contrast to the denim trend, we see a collection of bold and brightly colored accessories come down the Spring 2013 men’s runways. Salvatore Ferragamo had a stellar collection of bold colored accessories. They really seemed to draw in attention and in my opinion, were a big part of his overall collection. Another trend that will be sure to be a hit for the later summer months are the lack of socks. This year, socks are out and man ankles are in. This look was seen down the runways of Valentino and Michael Bastion.

Spring 2013 Men's Accessories: Valentino: Sock-less

So like I said previously, this year is about accessories. These accessories trends can either make or break an outfit. So go out, try new things and stay fashionable my friends.

Trend Report: Spring 2013 Accessories

Spring 2013: Louis Vuitton: Checkered Bag

It’s finally spring and you know what that means! Spring fashion trends have officially hit the streets with a glowing flourish. With metallic sheens and bright colors dominating this year’s trends, some tend to forget about the accessories that were seen on the runways. This is a fatal mistake because this season’s Spring 2013 collections were all about the accessories.

From bags to shoes, these accessories trends can add a kick to any look. Especially given that all the accessories tied into the clothing trends flawlessly. A key thing to remember about accessories this season is contrast.

Spring 2013 Accessories: Prada: Structured Tote

Not only will contrasting colors provide a bold statement, but it can also take any look from normal street wear to chic high fashion. My favorite contrasting look I saw on the Spring/Summer runways was black and white. Louis Vuitton had a fabulous collection of black and white checkered bags to coincide with their yellow and white checkered, sixty-inspired, clothes.

Spring 2013 Accessories: Gucci: Clear Trend

Likewise, Victoria Beckham‘s black and white shoes were a must have this Spring. They’re simple enough to be worn with almost anything, but bold enough that you can easily make a powerful statement.

An interesting trend that pairs to the black and white constrast was no color at all.  In fact, clear bags and shoes were strutting down the Spring runways this year. This trend was seen on the runways of Gucci and Fendi. I have to admit, I’m not a fan of the clear trend.

Spring 2013 Accessories: Alexander Wang: Gladiator Shoe

However, I am a complete fan of the oversized, structured tote. This trend dominated the runways of Prada and Dolce and Gabbana. I love this trend because it adds a stunning look to any outfit and is perfectly practical.

Now, let’s talk about shoes. This season’s major shoe trend was the knee-high gladiator sandal. This says a lot about the slight punk undertones of this season’s and the upcoming Fall season’s collections. Alexander Wang and Versace had the best gladiator sandal in my personal opinion. These shoes added a strong, dangerous look.  It gives any collection that sense of intimidation and power. They’re absolutely perfect for a night out on the town.

Spring 2013 Accessories: Calvin Klein: Block Heel

If gladiator sandals aren’t your thing, then you might consider the block. The block shaped heel is making a huge comeback this spring season. The block heel was scene on the runways of Michael Kors and Calvin Klein.

A key aspect of accessories is all about knowing what works and what doesn’t. Be it minimalist or heavy layers, it’s all about experimentation on what works best with you. Just remember to go out there, make a statement, and be fashionable my friends.
